So, I got into Flattr beta. So far looks like a blogger&hobbyist social club than art & software appreciation club. You upload money, you submit links to your dumb blog, you click buttons on things that don't suck completely. It would get interesting if they signed a deal with another site, so they could get masses of publishers into it. I would flattr my favorite bands all over again, but I'm not so interested in helping out anonymous niemands. Parhelic Triangle is coming. Eventually.

Not really. At least I sincerely hope that is not their intention. The problem, I think, lies in the lack of quality content, but since the only requirement is that the content belongs to the person posting it, there shouldn't be a technical limitation - all you need is an account and some html copy&pasting skills. But, since it's still just a private beta, the only people who have joined are tech nerds who have a content to offer (Top iteps? Soldering tutorial, some insect pictures, flattr wordpress plugin, flattr blog post, video visualisation of twitter posts, etc.) Now, if this will become as popular as facebook's Like button, then it will make sense. You know, apart from the fact that it was first (or one of the first), there is really nothing special about PC. In fact, over the years I have stumbled across several dozen similar "community" type websites that continue to exist in various states. The same can also be said about sites like somethingawful or 4chan etc. Just the other day I was looking at evilavatar which despite continuing to be updated has led to the creation of two separate spin-off communities, some of which have also subsequently splintered into other communities. Same with Gone Gold, metafilter, etc. |

This week I told one of my friends from GameSpy that this place still existed. He'd been with the company since 99 so he remembered the Andy days. He was flabbergasted that it still existed. Is this the camera topic? I got a new camera. It won't impress the photo nerds with their SLRs and all that fancy shit, but it's a nice compact point and shoot. What I really like is that it's a rugged design. It's waterproof to 33 feet and now I won't worry about being caught out in the rain on vacation. My wife will still use our FZ8 superzoom, but this will be nice for me to have. I suspect if I ever go on a beach vacation again and go snorkeling it'll come in handy. <Hugin_len> Basically, cheesy doesn't have awful taste in music, he's simply very white.

That's an awesome camera no doubt. Once my old ixus P/S dies I will look at something similar. I've been eyeing the lumix for sure. |
